Class of 2013 power forward Jamal Aytes committed to UNLV on Monday, finalizing the Rebels’ roster for the upcoming 2013-14 season.
Aytes announced his decision via his Twitter account:
I’m officially a UNLV Runnin’ Rebel now!!!

Aytes, a 6-foot-6 power forward, was on campus for an official visit last weekend. He chose UNLV over BYU, Gonzaga, West Virginia, Miami and Boston College, who were also reportedly in the running.
With the addition of Aytes, the Rebels now have 13 players under scholarship for 2013. Aytes essentially fills the scholarship vacated by Katin Reinhardt when he transferred from UNLV after last season.
Aytes was a late qualifier academically, which worked to suppress his recruitment during his senior year. But he performed well with the Dream Vision AAU team over the summer, playing next to Class of 2015 prospect Stephen Zimmerman and frequently posting huge numbers.
UNLV came in late on Aytes, with the entire recruitment process and commitment crammed into a matter of weeks. But the physical frontcourt prospect was evidently enamored with the Rebels program, and with fall semester classes beginning on August 26, he apparently decided to wrap things up quickly.
As a senior at JSerra High School (Calif.) last year, Aytes averaged 15.4 points and 8.8 rebounds.
